STEVEN H. WOLF

“In looking around my house for subject matter, I found myself interested in the patterns and colors in the (mostly Kurdish) rugs I've been collecting for many years. I have very little furniture due to an ongoing downsizing effort, i.e., the last dining table I had was sold over 15 years ago. So I naturally focused on what I had, which is rugs. These are tucked away, hung, draped or piled here and there. It's hard to avoid them in my home. Then there is the derelict, half-collapsed, dark interior of the shack in my backyard. This offered subject matter for dramatic visual contrast in snaps which would be dark, chaotic, almost apocalyptic; compared to the tidy, well-organized, middle-class/privileged imagery of the colorful interior snaps.”
