SECOND STREET CRITIQUE
Free community critiques led by top curators, artists, and arts professionals.
Beginning in September of 2019, Second Street Gallery hosted monthly lunchtime critiques for local artists seeking productive feedback on their work. Four artists per session were given ten minutes to present their latest work, followed by a group discussion with the critique leader and fellow artists. The Second Street Critique program is currently paused out of concern for the spread of COVID-19, but we plan to offer it again soon next season.
Past critique leaders have included:
Emily Smith, Executive Director of 1708 Gallery
Deborah McLeod, Owner and Executive Director of Chroma Projects Art Laboratory
Joy Peterson Heyrman, former Executive Director of the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts
Matthew McLendon, J. Sanford Miller Family Director at The Fralin Museum of Art
Hannah Cattarin, Assistant Curator at The Fralin Museum of Art
Henry Skerritt, Curator of the Indigenous Arts of Australia at the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection
Paul Brainard, Brooklyn, NY-based artist
