LAURA WOOTEN

“My garden and neighborhood landscape have always been places of sanctuary and inspiration for me, but even more so during the quarantine. This collection of images explores four interrelated themes: Details of Nature, Windows & Reflections, Skies & Clouds, and Landscape Vistas.

I love slowing down to notice the curious Details of Nature. Each unique plant or insect is expressing itself through form, movement and color, taking on a personality that fulfills a role of companionship in a time of solitude. Windows & Reflections suggest a feeling of longing, isolation and introspection, grids of color and light that appear tangible yet are somehow out of reach. Photos of photos under glass create a collage of memory and a collapsing of time as I gaze into gardens now preserved in the past, and windows open to the future. Skies & Clouds represent an expansion and a fullness of being that defies the physical restrictions of these quarantine days. Images of Landscape Vistas, observed from my daily neighborhood walk, express my desire to ground in familiar routines, while opening myself to an ever-changing cinematic display of nature, light and sky.”
